Since January, Red Dead Online players have been driving a huge online campaign, hoping, begging, praying for any morsel of new content.
While GTA Online continues to get constant new updates (and additional paid membership programmes no one asked for), Rockstar keeps on neglecting poor ol’ Red Dead. The hashtag #SaveRedDeadOnline has found itself in the Twitter trending tab plenty of times over the last few months, but now, fans are banding together for a last-ditch effort - a funeral for the game.

As reported by PCGamesN, one Red Dead fan page on Twitter first suggested the idea: “Who's up for it then? A funeral to celebrate one year of Red Dead Online being abandoned,” they wrote. “Dress up in your best funeral attire, get your friends to join, tag us in pics & use the hashtags below! Save the date: Wednesday July 13th. Are you in?”
The 13 July date isn’t random at all, by the way - it marks one full year since the last time the game got any new content (in the form of the Blood Money update). So, it’s definitely an appropriate date to see the game off.

Whether Rockstar will actually pay any attention to this endeavour is yet another matter, but a couple of months ago, the CEO of Rockstar’s parent company, Take-Two, directly responded to the campaign, reassuring fans that more will be said, at some point: “Rockstar Games talks about the updates that are coming, and we're working on an awful lot at Rockstar Games,” Strauss Zelnick said. “I've heard the frustration, it’s flattering that they want more content, and more will be said by Rockstar in due time.”
At the time, Zelnick confirmed that Take-Two intend to continue supporting Red Dead Online’s online servers, but said that content updates are all Rockstar’s business. Please, Rockstar, the cowboys are starving out here.
