It has one of the biggest open worlds in all of video games, and yet it is so rich in detail that people are still finding new things within it. There are so many gorgeous settings within the world of Red Dead that it’s not surprising that one of them won the London Games Festival Virtual Photo Challenge.
If you’re into Red Dead Redemption 2 then check out our compilation of the funniest wins and fails below.
London Games Festival describes the event as: “[celebrating] the new artistic medium of virtual photography where creators can bring video game design and virtual worlds to life. From a stunning landscape to intimate portrait, candid street to abstract architecture or historical to sci-fi fantasy.”
There were three categories in which game screenshots could be entered under; either abstract, portrait or landscape, with the winning entry coming from the last. The screenshot was captured by Joe Menzies, and beat out entries from more recent games such as Cyberpunk 2077, Ghostwire: Tokyo and Horizon Forbidden West. Even better, a gallery of over twenty other entries has been made public so we can all bask in the polygonal glory.
The winning shot seems to have been chosen for its composition and photo-realistic look. It features a lone silhouetted cowboy riding in the desert on his horse, with monoliths rising in the background. It’s amazing how great the shot looks despite the fact that technology and graphics have improved a lot over the past few years.
The screenshot was visible all over Trafalgar Square during the festival and the winner received an NVIDIA Studio Laptop for their troubles. Not bad at all for an afternoon's video game photography.
