'Red Dead Redemption 2' Theory Thinks The Real Rat In The Van Der Linde Gang Wasn't Micah At All

'Red Dead Redemption 2' Theory Thinks The Real Rat In The Van Der Linde Gang Wasn't Micah At All

All Dutch needed was some goddamn YouTubers.

A theory has emerged about the true identity of the informant in Red Dead Redemption 2 and the argument is that it was never Micah.

We'll require some suspension of belief as the story does specifically show that Micah worked to undermine Dutch's confidence and shatter his trust in his allies. However, YouTuber Filbee Gaming thinks that Abigail was putting plans in place to guarantee her safety and Jack's safety from the start.

When Arthur and Jack are fishing, the Pinkertons find them and ask for the location of Dutch Van der Linde, promising Arthur he would be immune from consequences if he betrayed the gang. Filbee Gaming points out that the agents know precisely where Arthur and Jack are, which is odd. Could Abigail have arranged the meeting knowing that Arthur wouldn't react aggressively with Jack in his care? Filbee Gaming also points out that, at this point in the game, Hosea is often the one to look after Jack while Abigail is busy, so why didn't Abigail ask Hosea to take Jack on a fishing trip?

The YouTuber shows us that, later on in the story, Abigail is the only one who isn't present when Agent Ross and Milton arrive at the camp. And, the Saint Denis heist goes very wrong very quickly and Hosea and John are captured. Hosea and Abigail were together, so there's a question of Abigail's escape, and John is taken alive by the Pinkertons when there really isn't any benefit to them to not kill him. Dutch literally demonstrates this when he and Arthur are in the caves in Guarma, but he's much more focused on John's possible treachery.

There are other signifiers that Abigail is the real rat like her reaction to Molly's confession and that Milton says that Micah's involvement only occurred after Guarma. Of course, it's up to you how much you subscribe to the theory, but it's an interesting exploration of the game's exceptional writing.
