Red Dead Redemption 3 could make one very controversial change

Red Dead Redemption 3 could make one very controversial change

Could AI take over the world as well as video games?

Technology is advancing at an alarming rate, so much so that the Skynet featured in James Cameron’s Terminator series seems closer to reality than it ever was, probably.

In particular, AI is advancing so rapidly that it can not only provide in-depth details on just about everything that you ask, but it can also generate art, write scripts, and even voice real-life actors to an uncanny likeness. While AI can be somewhat useful in the right hands, I’m not too sure if I like the idea of Skynet from the Terminator ruling the world and wiping out all of humanity. That won't actually happen, will it?

On the topic of AI, Roger Clark, the voice of Arthur Morgan in Red Dead Redemption 2 as well as other TV and movies, has expressed his concern regarding the ever-evolving technology and how it impacts actors' ability to work. During an interview with IGN, Clark said that in some way, the use of AI can be “incredibly immoral.”

When asked if he believes that video game companies are looking to replace real actors with AI, Clark replied: “It is going to replace some. I think that's unavoidable. I don't think it will completely replace actors, but I think it's here to stay and I think it's going to be used as a tool from here on out. I think the audience and customers still have a little more respect and regard for human performances, but there's a lot of them that don't really care at the same time. So, AI is here to stay. That is unarguable.”

He continued: “What I have a problem with is when it's being used to copy what's already been done before. If you can't hire Troy Baker and you just get an AI program to have him say whatever you want to say, I find that incredibly immoral. But there are many, many applications for AI that I know can and probably will help this industry. It pains me to say it but I think it's an unavoidable truth. For selfish reasons, I just want to keep working, you know?”

Whether Rockstar Games will implement AI voice acting into future games such as Red Dead Redemption 3 remains to be seen. Hopefully, there will never be a time when real actors are replaced by AI. Sadly, in some cases, that’s already happening.
