Red Dead Redemption 2, GTA developers team up to work on huge new game

We’ve officially entered December which is set to be a huge month for the gaming industry. The Game Awards will be held on 7 December, with Geoff Keighley teasing several big surprises for the event's 10 year anniversary. We also know that Rockstar Games will be dropping the GTA VI trailer this month.

If you recall, Rockstar took to social media last month to write, “We are very excited to let you know that in early December, we will release the first trailer for the next Grand Theft Auto. We look forward to many more years of sharing these experiences with all of you.” The trailer could drop any day now - heck, any minute for that matter so you can understand why fans are reaching a new echelon of hype. To add to the trailer hysteria, a pre-order date has also been revealed by a UK retailer. After years of speculation, it’s wild to think that we’ll actually have something tangible to feast our eyes upon. You may also be excited to discover that previous GTA and Red Dead Redemption 2 devs are teaming up for a new venture.

Rockstar Games co-founder Dan Houser has set up a new transmedia company, titled Absurd Ventures. It appears as if Houser has hired several ex-Rockstar devs who worked on a variety of GTA projects alongside Red Dead Redemption 2 which bodes well. As reported by PCGamesN, developer Lazlow Jones and writer Michael Unsworth are two of those who have decided to join Houser at Absurd Venture.

Houser departed Rockstar Games in 2020. It’s a great sign that Unsworth is on board. He acted as vice president of writing at Rockstar and oversaw work on a variety of Rockstar’s most prominent titles. It’s believed he will head up Absurd Venture’s story and narrative output.

The studio will reportedly focus on creating “new universes” to “tell great stories”. As a ‘transmedia’ company, don’t expect Absurd Ventures to limit itself to the world of gaming. Given the talent already at the company, we should naturally expect gaming plans but I’m guessing that Houser is looking to experiment across disciplines. We’re excited to see more.
