Resident Evil 4 PlayStation 5 upgrade is free if you have the PS4 version

Resident Evil 4 PlayStation 5 upgrade is free if you have the PS4 version

Capcom has confirmed that the Resident Evil 4 remake will have a free upgrade path.

I would say remakes are fairly popular in the world of gaming right now, but I’m not sure popular is the right word. Prevalent might be more apt. From Dead Space to The Last of Us Part I, new-gen reimaginings of our favourite games are popping up all over the place. Back in June, Capcom joined in on the fun and announced a remake of 2005’s Resident Evil 4.

It’s a remake that’s looking very promising indeed, which could be down to the fact that the original is old enough to justify its existence. Yesterday, Capcom released brand new gameplay footage which besides looking great, also confirmed that you cannot save the dog this time around. In happier news though, Capcom also detailed the game’s new-gen upgrade path.

Capcom has confirmed that those who order the PlayStation 4 edition of the Resident Evil 4 remake will be able to upgrade to the PlayStation 5 version free of charge. It’s reassuring to hear as more and more publishers are beginning to introduce an upgrade fee.

Back in July, Sony confirmed that users looking to upgrade to God Of War Ragnarök’s PS5 version would have to pay $10 or the “currency equivalent.” This is likely to be the case for PlayStation first-party exclusives going forwards. Sony reversed the decision during February’s release of Horizon Forbidden West but told fans that would be the last free upgrade path.

As such, it’s refreshing to see that Capcom are making Resident Evil 4’s upgrade path free. Pre-orders are live now and the game is set to release on 24 March, 2023.
