Resident Evil Outbreak needs a remake, fans say

Remake Resident Evil Outbreak, you cowards

Resident Evil remakes are pretty much a given now, despite “fans” review bombing Resident Evil 4, so it makes sense that fans are demanding a Resident Evil Outbreak remake.

Redditor InterstellarAshtray11 posted a relatable meme on the gaming subreddit, saying that fans deserve to get an updated version of REO and not the Resident Evil Re:Verse BETA they got. This isn’t to say there’s anything wrong with RER:V and its deathmatch theatrics, but that REO offers fans a much more immersive battle to the death.

Although it has online features, REO also has a narrative to follow, unlike Re:Verse, which is essentially a RE Street Fighter. For many players, it has limited gameplay value before it starts to get old, as LucasTheYeti explains: “Re:Verse is fun for about two hours”.

Speculation about whether REO will get a remaster has been rife since late 2022, when fans noticed that Capcom had updated their website with contemporary looking graphics from old school games like REO, Resident Evil Code: Veronica, and Outbreak File #2.

But while love for the more obscure RE games is evident, one fan who played the original REO wonders whether modern players will be able to handle such an unforgiving game, “Outbreak was pretty brutal to slow players. Idk if it would go over well nowadays. Though I guess with everyone having access to the internet you can at least find people to play with”.

Let’s get real for a moment, though, the RE4 remake has some savage moments when it looks like Leon Kennedy is about to bite the dust once and for all. And while you can bypass some of these scenes – like ringing the bell in the village at the start of the game – players are left praying for ammo and herbs.

Right now, all that we have is the wish of a Redditor that Resident Evil Outbreak will eventually happen. It’s not enough, not nearly enough, but it’ll sate us as we come to the end of our RE4 remastered playthrough.
