Resident Evil vibes abound in grim new photorealistic Unreal Engine 5 horror

Spooky vibes

To those suffering Ophidiophobia, you might want to skip this one. There’s a big snake and it’s not a very nice one either. To be fair, this is also a survival horror, so maybe you’re the exact audience the developer is going for.

As the game is called Digested, and features a large snake - not just 20ft, but like, the size of a train - it’s clear that you’re going to spend much of this game running away and hoping you don’t end up in the gullet of the danger noodle.

Resident Evil has a lot to answer for with these new survival horror games

Digested is a photorealistic horror made in Unreal Engine 5 and it’s giving Resident Evil vibes with its world of claustrophobic forests and wooded areas. All viewed from body-cam footage, which gives the game an even more chaotic feel, the aim of the game is to avoid being eaten. It’s a very simple premise, but one that should work well.

Digested is a short, intense, replayable horror survival game that thrusts you into a heart-pounding scenario: evade a relentless giant snake determined to consume you.” The developers are quick to say that the game is very replayable, “you'll gather various powerups, each offering a temporary advantage vital for outsmarting the serpent that stalks you. Moreover, each playthrough offers an entirely new experience.” We could see this as Dead by Daylight, the single-player, creepy-crawly edition, and that’s just fine by me.

The trend of running away from a massive creature is one I hope takes off. Just give us silly, scary games. I want massive spiders the size of a family hatchback; give me cockroaches as big as a helicopter; and wasps bigger than a 747 plane. Serial killers and slasher criminals have had their time in the moonlight, let’s embrace massive creatures who could gobble us down in seconds.
