It’s safe to say that Resident Evil: Village was the highlight of many gamers' calendars last year, being one of the most played games of 2021 according to HowLongToBeat’s stats. Currently though, with no other Resident Evil games officially in development, we can turn our gaze elsewhere, to an upcoming indie that looks like it’s going to have all the horror of the series we already know and love, and more.

Meet ILL, the first game from a new developer, Team Clout. Some readers might remember this one as Project ILL, as it was first known, but in case you’re unfamiliar, it’s a first person horror game which seems to be taking inspiration from Resident Evil 7 when it comes to gameplay, but with monster designs reminiscent of Dead Space. The whole thing is powered by Unreal Engine 5, and looks as positively stunning as it does grotesque.

ICYMI...check out some older (and significantly more graphic) footage of ILL below - it's not for the faint hearted.

The latest trailer, although short, will undoubtedly give horror fans even more to be excited about beyond the pretty visuals, though, as it’s confirmed that Nick Apostolides, the voice actor for one of Resident Evil’s most iconic characters, Leon S. Kennedy, will be playing a role in the game. Not only that, but as revealed in the video description, the soundtrack will be composed by American electronic musician Lorn.

If you’re anything like me, this trailer makes a pretty welcome change from the hyper-realistic gore we were subject to (or treated to, I suppose, if you enjoy that kind of thing) in the previous game teasers. Look, I know it’s impressive, but I’m not personally that into watching some finely rendered guts flying across the screen.

In March last year, Team Clout announced that there’s also a playable demo of the game on the way, although there’s no word on when that’ll be released just yet, so it’s all to look forward to. Just, please don’t hold me to playing this one, okay?
