Rick And Morty will continue to at least season 10 without Justin Roiland

Rick And Morty will continue on for 10 seasons as originally planned, despite the fact that Adult Swim has parted ways with Justin Roiland. Roiland, who co-created the series and voices the two titular characters, is facing allegations of domestic violence. Rick And Morty’s seventh season is currently in production.

In 2020, Roiland was charged with one felony count of domestic battery with corporal injury and one felony count of false imprisonment by menace, violence, fraud and/or deceit in Orange County, California. He pleaded not guilty to these charges, but the alleged victim later filed a protective order against Roiland with the terms that he will not harass, threaten or surveil the unnamed victim. Roiland must stay 100-feet away and surrender any firearms he owns to the authorities. The protective order is currently in place until October 2023.

This month, the allegations came to light once more after Roiland attended a pre-trial hearing. This will be followed by another hearing on 27 April. Yesterday, Adult Swim took to Twitter to announce, “Adult Swim has ended its association with Justin Roiland. Rick and Morty will continue. The talented and dedicated crew are hard at work on season seven.” As confirmed by The Hollywood Reporter, Dan Harmon will now serve as the sole showrunner and Rick And Morty is still locked in for 10 seasons.

Adult Swim will now, of course, need to recast the two leading roles. Fans have joked that they’ve found the perfect replacements already. Roiland’s attorney T. Edward Welbourn has maintained the creative’s innocence, saying, “We look forward to clearing Justin’s name and helping him move forward as swiftly as possible.”

Roiland will also no longer work with Squanch Games in their continued development of High On Life - last year’s hit Xbox exclusive. They wrote, “On January 16, 2023, Squanch Games received Justin Roiland’s resignation. The passionate team at Squanch will keep developing games we know our fans will love while continuing to support and improve High On Life.”
