House of the Dragon and The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power have been running side by side for weeks now, seemingly almost in competition of which fantasy series can generate more hype from its fans. Of course, they’re both pretty great - people are constantly discussing their theories and reactions to both, and following the release of a new Rings of Power episode today, many are swarming Reddit to unload their thoughts.

Episode four, The Great Wave, was a chunky one. Arondir was given an ultimatum, Theo’s up to no good, and Elrond has been busy making discoveries (thanks, Reddit). It’s clearly given everyone a lot to unpack, anyway, because the internet has much to discuss.

Obviously, the plot is the main thing, and it seems that most are impressed. “I quite liked Adar's introduction, he commanded that scene, he's a little off his rocker though, maybe he's got a bit of a messiah complex, but I like it. For that matter, I've been really enjoying Arondir's arc thus far,” said Eric_in_America. “I am LOVING this take on [Pharazôn], I have to say. It's easy to forget that, even though he had an ignoble end, this WAS the man who would go on to defeat the forces of Sauron in battle and lead him back to [Númenor] in chains,” wrote generaltekno.
People had a lot to say about this episode’s visuals, too. “The White Tree scene at the end is, by far the most breathtaking sequence in the show yet,” commented Gods-Ego-Death. “This one was straight fire. Particularly the petal sequences and Arondir with Disa’s singing in the background,” wrote GlassOnTheEvergreen.
