Rockstar Responds To 'GTA Trilogy' Backlash, Promises Fixes Are Coming

Does anyone else remember last November, when CD Projekt RED released Cyberpunk 2077 in a properly awful state? That was a rough few weeks. Furious fans, thousands of refund requests, an apologetic developer scrambling to apologise and issue fixes as soon as possible..

Those of us looking on at the dumpster fire that was Cyberpunk 2077 assumed that nothing like this would ever happen again. At least, it wouldn’t happen again any time soon, and definitely not from a major company.

Except we were wrong, because it’s one year later and Rockstar Games is currently going through exactly the same thing with Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition

If you’ve not been paying attention, Rockstar released the long-awaited remasters of GTA III, Vice City, and San Andreas last week. That’s when all hell broke loose. It appears the games are fundamentally broken on many platforms, and were even pulled from sale on PC for most of the weekend. Rockstar has been flooded with complaints and refund requests, and GTA: The Trilogy has somehow become the worst-rated game of 2021.

We still have no idea how what should have been a guaranteed home run of a release messed up this badly, but Rockstar has finally responded to the substantial backlash

Grand Theft Auto: The Trilogy - The Definitive Edition is again available through the Rockstar Games Launcher for play and purchase,” Rockstar Support wrote on Twitter last night.

“We sincerely apologize for the inconvenience, and are working to improve and update overall performance as we move forward.”

It’s currently unclear exactly when we can expect the first updates for the three games to arrive. Fortunately, modders have already rallied to address many of the more glaring issues in the meantime. Let’s hope Rockstar can get on top of this sooner rather than later.
