Ron Perlman Would Gladly Make 'Hellboy 3' For Us, Even If He Thinks He's Too Old

Guillermo del Toro and Ron Perlman have been friends for years and if anyone could get this movie off of the ground, it'd be them.

Ron Perlman is sure he's too old to reprise his role as Hellboy but he has said he will dunk himself in a vat of red paint for the third movie if the fans would like him to.

Hellboy and Hellboy II: The Golden Army are beloved by fans of the original comic book and those who love a brilliantly bizarre and bombastic story as director Guillermo del Toro is wont to tell. Of course, a reboot with David Harbour as the titular character emerged in 2019, however it missed the mark on the heart and soul of the adaptation. It was a box office bomb, to boot, and so fans were wondering if the del Toro series would ever receive its third installment. Fortunately, Perlman has been enthusiastic, if realistic, about what the movie would need to achieve to adequately pay tribute to the legacy of these incredible creative collaborations.

"[Hellboy 3] needs to be twice as big as Hellboy 1 or Hellboy 2," said the actor in 2013. "It's all of these oracles coming home to roost with these apocalyptic things taking place, Guillermo's version of this resolve in the trilogy is epic in scope. Not just anybody can make this movie. It has to be somebody who's no stranger to this sense of scope." At the time, Perlman was 64 years old when he said these comments, and added that the physicality of the role of Hellboy could "kill" him but it would be "worth it" owing to the "theatrical and compelling" epilogue of the character's story.

Today, it seems like the actor has rescinded some of those commitments, but he's still keenly aware of the love that fans have for the original two movies of the early noughties. “Am I eager to do Hellboy 3? No, I’m 71 f*cking years old,” said Perlman in an interview with The Independent. “[But] we owe this to the fans, and we should give it to them because it would be an epic conclusion. So Guillermo, if you’re reading, I’m not done pounding you to get this f*cking thing done.” You heard the guy.
