'Frozen', 'Kingdom Hearts 3' Actor Sayaka Kanda Found Dead At 35

Critically acclaimed Japanese actor and musician Sayaka Kanda has died. She was just 35 years old.

The star's sudden death was confirmed by her agency earlier today. She was found unresponsive in a pool of blood outside of her hotel in Sapporo. It's believed she fell from her 22nd floor room. She was pronounced dead upon arriving at the hospital.

“I would like to report to everyone who has supported Sayaka Kanda so far. Kanda Sayaka (35 years old) died suddenly at 9:40 pm on December 18, 2021," her agency wrote in a statement. "We are very sorry to give such a report to all the fans who supported us and all the people who took care of us. We are still unable to accept her passing and are trying to cope with it. We are currently investigating the detailed situation, but we kindly ask the media to refrain from interviewing relatives or posting articles by speculation."

At the time of writing, authorities have confirmed that they have yet to rule out death by suicide or foul play.

Kanda enjoyed a successful and varied career that spanned music, films, video games, TV, and stage productions. She provided the Japanese language voice for Anna in Frozen, and reprised the role once again in the Japanese version of Kingdom Hearts III. In 2015 she won Best Lead Actress award at the 2015 Seiyu Awards, an event which honours Japan's greatest voice actors.

Kanda also lent her voice to a range of popular anime, including Sword Art Online: Alicization - War of Underworld and Danganronpa V3. She also starred in the theatrical adaptations of Danganronpa The Stage and Super Danganronpa 2 The Stage. Her last role in an anime was Mana Nagase in 2021's Idoly Pride.
