Sonic 3 Movie Confirmed By Sega, Knuckles Also Getting Spinoff Series

Sonic 3 Movie Confirmed By Sega, Knuckles Also Getting Spinoff Series

Sega have announced they are making a Sonic universe which will include a third movie and a Knuckles based TV show.

The world of video games-gone-film is, to put it gently, rather a mixed bag. The recently released Uncharted film has been torn apart by critics, with fans beginning to recommend their own casting decisions. Despite critical panning, it's hard to deny that they are big money makers. The recent Mortal Kombat movie received a "meh" response, and yet the sequel is already in the works.

The Sonic The Hedgehog movie actually fared better than most. Though it gained just a 6.5 rating on IMDB it pulled in over $300million at the box office making three and a half times its investment. The second film was immediately put into action, and now SEGA have announced their partnership with Paramount+ by saying the third is already in the works.

If you haven't caught sight of the second Sonic movie yet, you can check out the trailer in the video below.

CEO for Sega Haruki Satomi tweeted from the Sonic The Hedgehog Twitter account, "We are delighted to announce that the third Sonic theatrical film and the first live action Sonic series for Paramount+ are being actively developed." That's right, despite the second film not even hitting cinemas yet, SEGA and Paramount are confident enough to start making the third film, months before the release of the last.

The live action TV show was a little more unexpected with no details released so far. However, in a financial meeting as reported by Deadline, has revealed that this will be based on Knuckles, with Idris Elba reprising the role of the red echidna. Despite Elba's best effort not to make a cartoon monotreme sexy, fans were still thirsting over the egg laying mammal, so it's not surprising he would get his own show.

Looks like it's going to be a Sonic filled 2022, let's just hope it's better than 2006.
