Seth Rogen Has Signed Up For A Donkey Kong Solo Movie, Apparently

The comic actor has apparently signed up for his very own film.

It wasn’t that long ago that the internet in collective confusion saw the cast list for the Mario movie. Nintendo and Illumination have been working together to make a film in the Mario universe, and although Charles Martinet, the voice of Mario and many other characters in the games was available to play the plumber, that part went to Chris Pratt. And the casting didn’t get any less bizarre as it went on.

Nintendo announced that Anya Taylor-Joy would be Princess Preach, Charlie Day was Luigi, Jack Black was Bowser, Keegan-Michael Key plays Toad, and Seth Rogen was given the part of Donkey Kong. According to Giant Freakin Robot, this is only just the beginning of Seth Rogan as the ape, as he’s been given his very own movie to play Kong.

Though Mario is the star of a huge number of Nintendo’s games, Donkey Kong has had his time to shine and it seems that that’ll extend to the big screen too. Though there isn’t any public evidence of this so far GFR seems absolutely sure and certain that its source is accurate.

Rogan's involvement was announced in September's Nintendo Direct...

Though we don’t know anything else about this project so far, apart from Seth Rogan’s involvement, it’s likely that at least one other member of the Mario film will be part of Donkey Kong’s adventure. Fred Armisen will be voicing Cranky Kong so his involvement in a Kong related film is implied. That does leave a lot of casting for roles like Diddy, Chunky, Candy, Funky, and Dixie Kong of course.

We're not likely to know if this rumour is really true for a long while. The Mario film hasn't even got an official title yet though it's meant to release at the end of 2022. Perhaps once the film is out, a Donkey Kong spin-off can be announced.
