Shazam star says Dwayne Johnson blocked him from appearing in Black Adam

James Gunn and Peter Safran are in the midst of wiping the DCU’s slate clean. To say things haven’t gone to plan in the past couple of years would be an understatement.

Where to begin? The DCU - formerly known as the DCEU - has lacked a clear vision for quite some time, mainly due to the fact that Zack Snyder exited the franchise before he’d finished bringing his Snyderverse to life. Then, there are all the controversies. Many fans called for Amber Heard and Ezra Miller to be recast in Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom and The Flash, respectively. Neither of those things are happening but Miller’s The Flash film will end the DCEU as we know it, leading into the DCU’s new ‘Chapter One’ subtitled ‘Gods and Monsters’. Before we move on to a new generation of heroes though, one more DCEU feud appears to have come to light.

Shazam! Fury of the Gods star Zachary Levi has confirmed that he was supposed to feature in a Black Adam post-credits scene but leading actor Dwayne Johnson blocked that from happening. Awkward. According to a report by The Wrap, the post-credits scene would’ve seen the Justice Society of America recruiting Shazam as a tease ahead of the release of Fury of the Gods. The report further claims that Johnson wanted to place himself and Black Adam at the centre of the DCU so instead, he asked if fan-favourite Henry Cavill could star in the post-credit scene.

Despite being a great film, Fury of the Gods is underperforming at the box office with some claiming that linking it to the wider DCU via the aforementioned post-credits scene could have drummed up some hype. The Wrap claims that Johnson “kneecapped” both franchises in trying to “take over DC”. As such, it doesn’t appear as if Gunn and Safran have any plans for Johnson’s Black Adam going forwards.

This isn’t simply a speculative report though. Zachery Levi took to Instagram to post a recap of the report, commenting (via IGN), “The truth shall set you free.” The DCU reboot is certainly coming at the right time. There’s no doubt about that.
