Silent Hill is really giving us everything, whilst giving us nothing at the moment. The chatter has been non-stop.

Just last month, screenshots appeared online from what many assumed to be a Silent Hill reboot which quite understandably sent the internet into a frenzy. Industry insider Jeff Grub then appeared to support the rumour stating it would be a PlayStation 5 exclusive but alas, nothing has actually been confirmed by the suspiciously tight-lipped Konami. We may be updateless on the video game front, but a new Silent Hill film may be coming in the meantime.

If you're a fan of Silent Hill, take a look at this teaser trailer for Slitterhead - a brand new game from Silent Hill creator Keiichiro Toyama.

Director Christophe Gans has announced that he wrote a script for a third Silent Hill film during the Covid-19 lockdown. Gans directed 2006’s Silent Hill and 2012’s Silent Hill: Revelation, but he noted that his idea for a third film is unrelated.

Speaking to Jeux Video (as translated by VGC), Gans said, “I’m working on it now. There were the Covid-19 years which finally forced us to stay home. I took the opportunity to write two scripts, [including] the script for a new Silent Hill movie that is totally independent from the two previous movies made and respects the way Silent Hill has evolved.”

Gans went on to explain, “Most of the time, these are stand-alone stories. Silent Hill is a bit like The Twilight Zone, the fourth dimension, a place where anything and everything can happen. I worked on a new Silent Hill which is a Silent Hill of the year 2023 – because the film would be released next year – and not a Silent Hill as I imagined it in 2006. It is a Silent Hill for today’s audiences while being ultra respectful of the saga.

“I’m aware that Silent Hill is a very big video game franchise, and a work of art in the noble sense of the word,” Gans added. “I’m trying to take into account what I’ve seen recently, what’s most original and amazing in horror films, and see if Silent Hill has the seeds, or even the expression of that. Silent Hill has always been an unusual game and ahead of its time.”

There you have it. We could have another Silent Hill film as early as next year. Safe to say, Gans clearly understands the franchise and it would definitely be interesting to see where he takes it next. It looks like we don’t have long to wait.
