'The Simpsons Hit & Run' Remastered Mod Makes It Look Like The TV Show

'The Simpsons Hit & Run' Remastered Mod Makes It Look Like The TV Show

One talented creator is remastering the iconic game, and re-drawing all of the cutscenes by hand.

Usually, when we see fan-made remakes of games come to life, they aim for one of two things. Many aim simply to revamp the existing game with shinier new textures, brighter colours, and a smoother frame rate. Can’t complain with that. Others go even further, rebuilding games from the ground up to try to make them look more realistic, like this incredible remake of Bully.

What we don’t often see is 3D games being thrown into the realm of 2D. But, as reported by TheGamer, as part of their remastered mod of The Simpsons Hit & Run, content creator El Gato Del Tejado has been remaking all of the iconic game’s cutscenes in Matt Groening’s signature art style, making them look like they were plucked straight from the show.

Before we get into it, take a look at this hilarious God of War mod, which replaces the characters with familiar faces from The Simpsons.

Doing this, as you’d imagine, is no mean feat. As explained in their most recent video, the creator has had to learn to draw the art style from scratch, and has been redrawing all the cutscenes by hand. I can’t even imagine how long it’s going to take them to complete the whole thing, but the results are undeniably impressive - take a look below.

“Bro, I've never seen someone more dedicated to preserving a game to go as far as leaning the artist's style and remaking scenes by hand, holy crap bravo,” commented Charuzu, Automaton Artificer. “The 2D cutscenes look incredibly professional. I never particularly disliked the 3D cutscenes, but there's no contest between yours and the originals,” wrote ChocolateMilkMage. “The fact you are going as far as learning the art style of the show and drawing the cutscenes by hand is so awesome! The end result is going to be epic,” added RookieCardGuard.

At the moment, there’s no expected release window for the mod to launch, but good things come to those who wait, and it definitely looks like this’ll be worth it.
