You know, you’d think after literally over a decade, modders would have exhausted the amount of stuff that they could add to Skyrim. I mean, sure, you can always update the textures to be newer and shinier than before (with some pretty spectacular results), but when it comes to altering the game fundamentally, you’d think people would have run out of ideas by now.
Well, no, apparently not. As reported by PC Gamer, one modder, who goes by Dan Ruta, has seemingly come to the realisation that the NPCs in Skyrim say ‘Dragonborn’ like, way too much. It’s one of those things where you can’t exactly get round it - in a game like this, you need to be able to be called something generic so that the dialogue works for all the characters. Until now, anyway, because it’s finally possible for NPCs to say your actual name, out loud, no matter what it is. Yes, even if it’s ridiculous.

The ‘Say My Name’ mod works using the power of the AI voice-acting tool, xVASynth, to create completely new dialogue using the existing NPC voices, and it’s surprisingly accurate. You can check it out in action in the video below - it’s fair to say that it’s still pretty noticeable when a name is thrown in (that said, xX_dragon_killer_420_69_Xx doesn’t really roll off the tongue even if it’s not AI generated), but it’s significantly better than the generic text-to-speech voices which have come before it.
If you want to try this out for yourself, you totally can - the mod is free to download either on Nexus Mods or Steam. Depending on how you use it, this could be a complete game changer when it comes to immersion. Or, you could just be a bit silly and have everyone in Skyrim call you big chungus, or something. I don’t make the rules.
