Snoop Dogg Wants To Buy Twitter Now, Shares His Vision For The Platform

Less “dope on a jet”, more free internet in the air

Look, right. Snoop Dogg likes to tweet. With over 20m followers, why wouldn’t he? And his latest missive on the social media platform with the lil birdhouse and no edit button is all about Twitter itself. And shouldn’t be taken seriously, at all.

The rapper - whose 19th studio album BODR (Back On Death Row - as it is, indeed, released through the Death Row imprint) came out in February 2022 - posted, “May have 2 buy Twitter now” on May 13, before subsequently listing some of the changes he’d make to the service.

First of all, he added: “Gonna replace the board of directors with Jimmy from my corner Fish Fry, Tommy Chung and tha guy with the ponytail on CNBC.” Said guy with the ponytail, Pete Najarian, is apparently up for the gig; and I think he means Tommy Chong, of Cheech & Chong fame? As he, like Snoop, is partial to those fancy cigarettes the police dislike so much. Then: “First line of business. Free internet on airplanes!!! 29 dollars for 1 hour is bullsh*.” Getting your priorities right here, Snoop. We love to see it.

Snoop then declared that, if he was in charge of Twitter, everyone would get a checkmark to identify that they are who they say they are. Which, honestly, is a fine policy. It’s weird that folk can’t easily get that verification, leaving themselves open to imposters; and of course such an approach would squash the various bot accounts that plague the platform. I’ve a little blue tick on my account, and I’m nobody - so, anybody should be able to get this, really.

Snoop Dogg is now in Call of Duty. Obviously.

Twitter is currently in a will-he-or-won’t-he relationship with known lover of needless space travel and cars so quiet they can run you over before you’ve so much as heard them not put the brakes on, Elon Musk. The South African businessman may or may not buy the platform - the deal’s on hold right now, hence Snoop - who recently joined Faze Clan - sweeping in with his ideas for a takeover. It’s worth noting, however, that Musk has a net worth of over $260 billion, apparently, while Snoop Dogg… doesn’t. The internet tells me he’s worth around $150 million - so he lacks the immediate capital to buy Twitter, anyway. Not that he would, anyway. Like I said, these are not tweets to be taken seriously.

But, they’re a bit of fun, aren’t they? We could all do with a laugh. I’ve had myself a chuckle at this, and hopefully you have too. Y’know, Snoop is 50 years old now, which is the equivalent of around seven or eight in (larger-breed) dog years. Just some truth for you, there. Do whatever you will with it.
