'Sonic Adventure 3' May Never Happen, Says Sonic Team Boss

So, we’ve seen a fair bit of Sonic Frontiers now, and reaction has been mixed, to say the least. The ‘open-zone’ format (that’s Sonic for open-world) is a completely new concept for the series - the trailers definitely seem to be aiming for some kind of Breath of the Sonic vibes. It’s a little strange.

Regardless of how you feel about Frontiers, though, there’s very little room for debate when it comes to Sonic Adventure 2 being a masterpiece. The 2001 release is still iconic to this day, and although there was never a third Adventure game, there’s no doubt that fans would love to see it happen. A recent interview between IGN and Sonic Team head Takashi Iizuka gave people some hope that it could actually be a thing, but sadly, it seems not.

While you're here, be sure to take a look at the gameplay trailer for Sonic Frontiers.

As reported by VGC, Iizuka revealed that there are, in fact, no plans to make Sonic Adventure 3: “IGN asked very directly about making Sonic Adventure 3, so I was just answering the question,” he told VGC. “I’m not saying, ‘we’re definitely making Sonic Adventure 3’, although people may want to believe that.

“I just want to reiterate that the entire team is focused on Sonic Frontiers and they really want to make it the best game that it can be,” he continued. “In the future, yes, Sonic Adventure 3 is there as an idea that at some point it would be cool to maybe explore, but that’s not part of the plan and that’s not what I’m doing. It’s all about Frontiers [right now] and we have no plans for Sonic Adventure 3 at this point. I just want to be clear with everyone!”

So, that’s that then. Just because there are no plans right now, though, that doesn’t mean Iizuka doesn’t ever want to see it happen: “But yeah, as somebody who made Sonic Adventure 1 and 2, it is on my mind as some idea that I could potentially think about in the future,” he said.

Fingers crossed, then. I need nothing more in my life than to return to the Chao Garden.
