'Sonic The Hedgehog 2' Home Streaming Debut Platform And Date Confirmed

The most successful video game adaptation of all time could land on a major streaming platform as early as next month.

As I’m sure you’ve heard by now, Sonic The Hedgehog 2 was a delight. In our review, Dine commented that the movie delivers “non-stop fun from beginning to end,” making it a “tremendously enjoyable film that I’m actually craving to go watch again.”

It has gone on to become the most successful video game film adaptation of all time. Admittedly, video game adaptations have a history of being terrible, so it shouldn’t take much to steal the crown, but Sonic The Hedgehog 2 deserves credit regardless for succeeding where others failed.

Take a look at our interview with Jim Carrey who plays Dr. Robotnik in the film.

If you missed the film’s cinema release, you might not have to wait too long to watch the film from the comfort of your home - there is a catch though. According to SEGAbits, Sonic The Hedgehog 2 is rumoured to release on Paramount+ on 24 May, which is great news for US fans and not so great for the rest of us who are going to have to wait a little bit longer.

If you’re wondering what to expect, Sonic The Hedgehog 2 picks up after Sonic has settled into his new life in Green Hills. Everyone’s favourite blue hedgehog must team up with Tails to go head to head with Dr. Robotnik and Knuckles in a search for a mystical emerald. Sounds fun, right? Take my word for it, it really is.

Perhaps it’s because Sonic The Hedgehog 2 was made by people with a real love for gaming. During our interview with Ben Schwartz and James Marsden, Schwartz told us that he loves “a role-playing game” whilst Marsden admitted to spending time on the Nintendo 64 as a kid.

If you’re a UK fan, estimates place a physical release in July with a potential home rental release coming a few weeks prior to that. It’s certainly worth the wait though to see what is a great video game adaptation and haven’t we been waiting long enough for one of those?
