Sonic's Cursed Original Movie Design Has Returned In The Last Place We Expected

Sonic's Cursed Original Movie Design Has Returned In The Last Place We Expected

Somehow, movie Sonic has returned

Sonic fans won't soon forget the sheer horror of the original design for the blue blur in 2020's Sonic The Hedgehog.

The first trailer for the live-action movie depicted Sonic not as a loveable rascal, but as a sleep paralysis demon that might scuttle out from under your bed and eat your toes. The backlash was so severe that SEGA and Paramount went back to the drawing board and completely redesigned the character.

It all worked out in the long run. This year's Sonic The Hedgehog 2 has officially become the most successful video game adaptation of all time, and fans are already eagerly awaiting the next instalment. Still, we can't help but wonder... what became of the original movie Sonic?

That's a question that the new Disney Plus movie Chip ‘n Dale: Rescue Rangers answers in hilarious fashion. The new movie, which arrived on the streaming service today, has a brilliant reference to the abandoned Sonic design that shows SEGA is more than willing to poke fun at itself.

A brief scene in the movie sees ‘Ugly Sonic’ attempting to make some money by selling photos of himself at a convention.

“They’ll like me for who I am," Sonic says of the convention attendees. "Not like last time when the internet got one look at my human teeth and burned the place down.”

It's nice to know that Ugly Sonic is still out there getting work, even if it's not quite the career he was hoping for.
