South Park: Snow Day 3D RPG gameplay trailer divides fans

South Park: Snow Day 3D RPG gameplay trailer divides fans

South Park Snow Day is a 3D RPG that is offering its fans something a little different

It’s hard to believe that the South Park series is still going strong after 26 years since its first episode debuted all the way back in 1997.

In August 2021, reports were making the rounds that a 3D South Park game was in development, a far cry from its usual 2D presentation. Alas, South Park: Snow Day was finally announced in August this year.

Check out the South Park: Snow Day gameplay trailer below!

South Park: Snow Day is a very different game from the fantastic single-player RPG titles from Ubisoft, namely South Park: The Stick of Truth and South Park: The Fractured But Whole, which we both presentated in the 2D style inspired by the popular TV series. Unlike the other two aforementioned games from Ubisoft, published by THQ Nordic, South Park: Snow Day is a 3D RPG co-op game.

“From South Park Digital Studios, the studio that brought you South Park: The Stick of Truth, South Park: The Fractured but Whole, and South Park: Phone Destroyer comes the next chapter in the journey of the New Kid,” reads the official press release. “Join Cartman, Stan, Kyle, and Kenny, in three-dimensional glory, to celebrate the most magical day in any young child’s life - a snow day! A massive blizzard has thrown the town into chaos and, more importantly, cancelled school.”

Earlier this week, THQ Nordic released a new gameplay trailer for South Park: Snow Day, offering more juicy footage than what we were treated to last August. While the trailer didn't blow me away, it looked fine and I’m keen on trying the game out. That being said, it seems that the new trailer is dividing fellow South Park fans.

“I wish they kept the style of the other games but this is a spin-off, so I don’t mind as long as they come back after with an RPG like before,” said unexpectedkid5880 in a YouTube comments section. “I will miss the 2D style,” said 2victorr. “Man, I was hoping this was gonna be a remake of the N64 game,” replied TLOZSkywardFan.

“The game honestly looks pretty cool,” said a more optimistic LarvaTubaShow. “These are the types of games you need to watch for. The ones that come out of nowhere. This game will be awesome,” exclaimed Jdiroe.

At the end of the day, we all have different tastes when it comes to entertainment and video games are no exception. It’s perhaps worth keeping in mind that when it launches, South Park: Snow Day is a budget title with an RRP of £24.99/$29.99, so it might be unreasonable to expect something AAA.

South Park: Snow Day does not have a release date at the time of writing, but we do know that it will be released sometime in 2024 for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S and Nintendo Switch.
