Without question, Marvel’s Spider-Man is one of the most popular characters ever whether it be in traditional comics, movies, animations, video games and more.
The latest Spidey goodness on the way comes in the form of a sequel to the graphic novel Spider-Man: Reign described as the ‘most notorious Spider-Man story’ ever told.

If you were hoping for some gleeful friendly neighbourhood Peter Parker shenanigans, then think again! In this world, Parker’s moral compass, Mary Jane, is no more, after she died following a battle with cancer when she was infected by Parker’s radioactive population juice (if you get my drift). So as you can imagine, this version of Spidey is very resentful and plagued with guilt.

“Thirty years into Spider-Man's future, New York City has become a safe, albeit authoritarian territory under the complete control of Mayor Waters,” reads the synopsis of the graphic novel. “Superheroes and supervillains are no longer prevalent, instead replaced by the authoritarian government's police force, "The Reign”.
Furthermore, befitting of its dark, more mature theme, it is believed that Spider-Man: Reign is inspired by Batman: The Dark Knight Returns by Frank Miller and Klaus Jenson. So much so that a character in Spider-Man: Reign is named ‘Miller Jansen’.

In a tweet made by the official Spider-Man Twitter account, a piece of artwork reminiscent of the 2006-07 mini-series from Kaare Andrews all but offically confirms that the comic book sequel is on the way. What’s more, the tweet in question also informs followers to "stay tuned" for further information. So be sure to keep a keen eye on Marvel’s social media channels over the next few days.
In related news, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 from Insomniac Games coming to PlayStation 5 in a couple of months could face a delay or even an outright ban in some countries.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 will be released on 20 October 2023.
