'Spider-Man 4' In Active Development Between Marvel And Sony

'Spider-Man 4' In Active Development Between Marvel And Sony

Godspeed, Spider-Man

Marvel and Sony are working together to develop the next chapter of Tom Holland's Spider-Man saga, which will reportedly once again take place within the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

There were some concerns in the lead-up to Spider-Man: No Way Home that a fourth Spidey movie with Holland in the role would see the character ripped away from the MCU in favour of Sony's growing Spider-Verse, which includes characters like Venom and Morbius.

Fortunately, while No Way Home did present a major shift in status quo for the MCU's wall-crawler, it looks as if he'll remain a part of that universe for now.

Speaking to The New York Times, Marvel head honcho Kevin Feige and longtime Spider-Man producer Amy Pascal confirmed they plan to continue sharing the character as part of a creative collaboration.

"We're producers, so we always believe everything will work out. I love working with Kevin," Pascal said. "We have a great partnership, along with Tom Rothman, who runs Sony and has been instrumental, a great leader with great ideas. I hope it lasts forever."

"Amy and I and Disney and Sony are talking about — yes, we're actively beginning to develop where the story heads next, which I only say outright because I don't want fans to go through any separation trauma like what happened after Far From Home. That will not be occurring this time," Feige added.

As for what Spider-Man 4 will be about? Well, that's anyone's guess.

"At the end of the movie we just made [No Way Home], you see Spider-Man make a momentous decision, one that you've never seen him make before," Pascal teased "It's a sacrifice. And that gives us a lot to work with for the next film."

I will say that I can't see the next film topping No Way Home in terms of spectacle, and I don't think they should try! A back-to-basics story in which Peter is a friendly neighborhood Spider-Man would be a welcome change of pace after years of "Avengers-level threats", wouldn't it?
