Marvel Announces LGBTQ+ Spider-Man

Marvel Announces LGBTQ+ Spider-Man

The Web-Weaver

Spider-Man fans will know that there are infinite versions of the character swinging around out there in the multiverse. From Peter Parker and Miles Morales, to Gwen Stacy and a talking cartoon pig, there's a Spidey for everyone.

Now, Marvel Comics is introducing a brand-new LGBTQ+ Spider-Man variant in its Edge Of The Spider-Verse comic series.

Web-Weaver is an all-new, gay superhero that's described as a “not-so-mild mannered fashion designer" who works at Van Dyne Industries - the company owned by The Wasp's alter-ego, Janet Van Dyne.

After this Spidey variant gets his powers, he “shows us a different kind of Spider-Slayer”, according to the character's official description. (love that).

Web Weaver's co-creator, Eisner-nominated writer Steve Fox, took to Twitter to share his pride at having helped bring a new kind of Spider-Man into the world (thanks, Pink News).

He wrote: "Surprise: I had the huge gay honour of helping to co-create Web-Weaver, who’ll make his debut in Edge of the Spider-verse this September!”

Fox added that he wanted to make sure Web-Weave was more than a stereotype, or a character that attempted to speak for the entire queer community.

“Something I realised immediately when conceiving Web-Weaver is that he can’t – and shouldn’t – represent ALL gay men,” Fox explained. “No single character cant.

“His fearlessly femme identity is central to who he is, but it’s not the STORY… Which you can experience for yourself in September!”

Web-Weaver will make his fabulous debut in the growing multiverse as part of Marvel Comic's massive Spider-Verse event this year.
