Peter Parker is going to have his work cut out for him when Spider-Man: No Way Home hits cinemas on December 17.

The trailer released earlier this year confirmed what many of us had long suspected: that Tom Holland’s third (potentially final) outing in the MCU as Spider-Man will be a multiverse-spanning celebration of the character in which ol’ webhead finds himself battling foes from previous lives.

Take a look at Spider-Man: No Way Home in action below!

The explosive trailer teased Electro from The Amazing Spider-Man 2, Green Goblin from the original Sam Raimi Spider-Man, and Doctor Octopus from Spider-Man 2. But we can now add two more classic villains to the already impressive party list: Lizard and Sandman.

An in-depth new feature on No Way Home in Empire Magazine confirms that Rhys Ifans’ Lizard, who we last saw in The Amazing Spider-Man will make an appearance. Thomas Haden Church's Sandman, from the much-maligned Spider-Man 3, will also return to menace our hero.

This might not come as a major surprise, especially for those of us who have painstakingly gone over the movie’s trailer frame-by-frame over the last few months. There’s one moment in which we see Spidey swinging away from a large monster which many of us assumed to be Sandman. A shadowy figure who lunges out of the darkness towards Peter towards the end of the trailer was also fairly swiftly identified as Lizard.

Given that Tom Holland's Spider-Man is battling foes from past movies, fans are becoming increasingly certain this means he'll also cross paths with Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield's versions of the iconic superhero. Of course both actors have vehemently denied they're in the movie multiple times at this point, so we'll just have to wait and see. I certainly wouldn't bet against them showing up, though.
