'Spider-Man: No Way Home' Fans Are Starting To See Tobey Maguire Everywhere

'Spider-Man: No Way Home' Fans Are Starting To See Tobey Maguire Everywhere

They're caught in his web

Fans have been speculating once again as Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man seems to have appeared in online promotional images for the release of Spider-Man No Way Home. It has been long rumoured that the actor will be respiring his role as Peter Parker alongside Tom Holland and Andrew Garfield in an incredible hero team up in the film. There have been supposed leaks showing that they will be coming together, and a new image from Indonesia is once again fueling the rumours, though all maybe not be as it initially seems.

Comicbook reported that Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man could be seen on this Instagram account. Nine images have been posted which together make a collage of two Spider-Men fighting Electro. It’s a cool image and according to Comicbook, it’s an official promo image too. However, it seems that perhaps there is a visual misunderstanding - a reference that mostly Indonesian people would get but it’s lost on others.

Here is the trailer for Spider-Man No Way Home...

The Spider-Man on the web, the one that looks like Tobey Maguire’s version, is actually a building. It sounds weird but actually, there is a building in Indonesia that has a massive Spider-Man hanging off the front of it, and this image was celebrating that. Cihampelas Street in Bandung is the location of this image apparently and though it doesn't look like that anymore, you can still see evidence of the superhero heavy influence in the area on Google Maps

This image comes from a series of pictures depicting Spider-Man fighting bad guys around classic Indonesian locations. It’s just a bit of a mix up that one such location actually features a Spider-Man too. Does this disprove Maguire’s appearance in No Way Home? Not in the slightest. But it’s certainly funny that so many of us were fooled at first glance at this Instagram image.

The Spidermandicihampelas_ Instagram account, where the original image is featured, now has a disclaimer on its Story saying: “Greetings, We would like to say that we are elated and surprised to see our campaign for Spider-Man: No Way Home x Livin’ by Mandiri go viral and generating a lot of buss on social media. However, we have to say that the illustrations featured on the campaign are not based on events that would happen on [sic] the upcoming movie, Spider-Man: No Way Home

“The Illustrations are instead meant to be a tongue-in-cheek homage to a certain statue of Spider-Man on Cihampelas Street, Bandung, Indonesia. Other locations serving as our inspirations are several landmarks in Jakarta, Jam Gadang in Bukittinggi, and the Suramadu bridge linking Mudra to Java. We would like to apologise if this has led to some misunderstanding, especially among fans of Spider-Man and the MCU.”

There you have it. It’s all a big misunderstanding. But we can’t wait to see Spider-Man: No Way Home when it launches next week.
