Tom Holland Reveals Which MCU Heroes Spider-Man Could Team Up With Next

We love a team-up

One of the best things about the Marvel Cinematic Universe is seeing unexpected combinations of heroes team up with one another. Back in the day, most superhero movies were entirely insular affairs. Today? We can see Iron Man bickering with Doctor Strange, or watch Thor go on a cosmic adventure with Hulk. It's the stuff of dreams. Incredibly nerdy dreams.

Spider-Man fans finally got their wish when Tom Holland made his MCU debut as Peter Parker way back in 2016's Captain America: Civil War. In that time, the webbed wonder has met pretty much every Avenger - although there's rarely been time to chat.

Spidey's closest MCU colleague was, of course, Iron Man. But after Tony Stark came down with an unfortunate case of death following the events of Avengers Endgame, Peter was left mentor-less once again. As I'm sure you're aware, Spider-Man: No Way Home is bringing back Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), though his relationship to Peter is... less positive.

"I think there's now a level of mutual respect between the two of them," Holland told GAMINGbible of the pair's relationship, post-Endgame. "Both of them have saved the world in their own right. And I think it's as simple as Peter Parker is going to a colleague to ask for a favour. But in the world of superheroes, that is Spider-Man asking Doctor Strange to brainwash the entire world to forget who he is. So, you know, it's slightly higher stakes.

"But it's really exciting to see this relationship between two Avengers blossom, and then it kind of falls apart. We're not enemies! But we're definitely not friends. But it's really nice to see that relationship grow, especially after Peter has lost so much. It's nice for him to find someone else that he can lean on."

We also asked Holland which other Avengers he'd like his Spider-Man to team up with in future movies, and he had some excellent ideas.

"I'd love to explore a relationship with the Hulk," Holland suggested. "I think that'd be really cool. I just love the idea of Hulk and Spider Man teaming up. That'd be really fun. And I like the image of Hulk walking round and Spidey sitting on his shoulders. I just think it's a really funny image.

"But I also think Ant Man would be a really fun one for Peter Parker to team up with, I think a small Spider-Man would be interesting. I know I am small... but a tiny Spider-Man would be really funny."

Spider-Man: No Way Home arrives in UK cinemas December 15.
