We’re still waiting on a release date for Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, let alone see any gameplay, and yet, the hype really feels as if it’s been building over the last couple of days.
Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is, according to Venom actor Tony Todd, due to launch this September - although Insomniac Games will only commit to saying ‘fall’. Yesterday, it was announced that Marvel’s Spider-Man Remastered will soon finally launch as a standalone title, plus a free prequel to Marvel’s Spider-Man 2 is being released to set up the next instalment. Peter Parker actor Yuri Lowenthal has teased that the game is ‘astonishing’ and I think we’re all extremely excited. In the meantime though, Spidey fans have been reminiscing about the classic that is 2001’s Spider-Man.

We’ve all got that one video game boss that truly terrified us. Personally, I’m not over The Last of Us Part II’s Rat King, but Spidey fans have gathered to unite in their fear of Monster Ock from 2001’s Spider-Man game. Reddit user -Megaflare- wrote, “23 years later, and this still remains the absolute definition of panic.” Plenty of fellow fans agreed.
Loyallytear wrote, “What a nightmarish thing,” while undeadkrakken added, “I still wake up in cold sweats.” Mynameisfury said, “I was like three years old when my dad was playing through it and they had to take me out of the room at that part lmao, scared me to death.” Wize_Wizard_Eugene agreed, adding, “I remember panicking in fear as a kid.”

If you’re a fan of PS1 Spider-Man, you can actually catch the character in the upcoming Spider-Man: Across The Spider-Verse film, which is due to release on 2 June. The character was spotted in a recent trailer along with both of Insomniac Games’ Spidey characters.
