Sam Raimi Confirms He'd Never Direct A Spider-Man Movie Without Tobey Maguire

Sam Raimi has squashed any speculation that he might be directing a potential fourth Spider-Man movie with Tom Holland.

Holland has of course played Spider-Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe for last several years, making his debut in Captain America: Civil War, and most recently meeting his counterparts (played by Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield) in Spider-Man: No Way Home.

While it's likely Holland will be returning for a fourth Spider-Man movie, Raimi has made it clear that he would never direct a Spidey flick without the actor who starred in his original trilogy: Tobey Maguire.

Raimi, who recently made his MCU debut with Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, told The Los Angeles Times: "I love Spider-Man. And I love Tom Holland in the role. [But] if I made a Spider-Man movie, it would probably have to be with Tobey or he'd break my neck."

Raimi has previously expressed interest in making Spider-Man 4, but as a sequel to 2007's Spider-Man 3 and a follow-up to his own trilogy, rather than a continuation of the MCU Spider-Man's story.

"If there was a great story there, I think it'd be… my love for the characters hasn't diminished one iota," Raimi said recently of a new movie with Maguire. "It would be the same things that would stop me now that stopped me then: 'Does Tobey want to do it? Is there an emotional arc for him? Is there a great conflict for this character? And is there a worthy villain that fits into the theme of the piece?' There's a lot of questions that would have to be answered. If those could be answered, then I'd love to."

Basically, don't expect Sam Raimi to make a new Spider-Man movie unless he get Maguire roped in. Let's all pray he finds a way to make it work, eh?
