Tom Holland Weighs In On The MCU's Ultimate Fate

Tom Holland Weighs In On The MCU's Ultimate Fate

It can't be stopped - it's self-sustaining now

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has evolved over the years from an impressive handful of interconnected superhero adventures, into an unstoppable behemoth comprised of blockbuster movies and hit TV shows.

Many might have assumed that Avengers Endgame would be a suitable place to draw a line under the MCU. It wrapped up ten years of storytelling across 22 films, after all.

But it hasn't stopped. Since Endgame, there have been four more MCU movies and a handful of Disney Plus shows all dealing with the aftermath of Thanos climatic battle with The Avengers. The message from Marvel and Disney seems clear: There are so many more stories to tell.

Marvel has already outlined some of its plans for the future - a future that includes characters like Blade, The Fantastic Four, and even The X-Men. But at a certain point, is it possible the MCU will finally run out of steam?

Spider-Man star Tom Holland doesn't think so. Speaking to GAMINGbible ahead of the release of Spider-Man: No Way Home, the young actor shared his take on the MCU's future.

"I think it will always go on," Holland explained. "Kevin Feige and his incredible team of producers will always be coming up with new ways to make this universe exciting and different, and will constantly challenge the audience with new ideas.

People say Endgame was the end of an era. And I think they're probably right! But what's so incredible about Marvel is their ability to start something new. You've got the Black Widow franchise, the Shang chi franchise, Eternals, all of these great films coming out that people are loving, you know, and they're expanding their universe. I mean, if you look at the comics, there are endless possibilities to what they can do."

As for how big a role Spider-Man will play in the universe going forward? We'll have to wait and see. Holland explained to us he's not sure Peter Parker is the face of the MCU just yet.

"When you're in the MCU, you're never alone," he said. "You know, and I think before I become the face of the franchise, we've got to remember that we have people like Star Lord [Chris Pratt], and Thor [Chris Hemsworth]. There's loads of different people that I think should probably step up to the plate and be the leader.

"Peter Parker, at the end of the day, has just graduated high school. So he's still a kid. But you know, I'm hugely grateful that Joe would say something like that. I mean, it's always great having someone as awesome as the Russo brothers in your corner. So yeah, so it's pretty great."

Spider-Man: No Way Home arrives in UK cinemas December 15. In the meantime, you can read the rest of our chat with Tom Holland right here.
