If you were living under a rock on Thursday, you might not have noticed that the rights to the world of Middle-earth have changed hands. As a result, there might be new movies centring on characters like Gandalf and Aragorn, though we might be waiting a little while yet.
Embracer Group, the Swedish media holding company that owns publishers like THQ Nordic, Saber Interactive and Deep Silver, spent $770 million on snapping up Middle-earth Enterprises, Tripwire Interactive, Singtrix, Limited Run and one "unannounced" acquisition in one fell swoop. This shouldn't affect present The Lord of the Rings projects like Rings of Power or The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, however we'll only have to look in one place for all of our future Tolkien media.

“I am truly excited to have The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit, one of the world’s most epic fantasy franchises join the Embracer family, opening up more transmedia opportunities including synergies across our global group," said CEO Lars Wingefors. The press release continued to state that the use of the license will comprise of "other opportunities [like] exploring additional movies based on iconic characters such as Gandalf, Aragorn, Gollum, Galadriel, Eowyn and other characters from the literary works of J.R.R. Tolkien, and continue to provide new opportunities for fans to explore this fictive world through merchandising and other experiences."
Capitalism really popped off with that one. Here's my idea: the history of the Maiar (of which Gandalf is one) but written and filmed in the style of HBO's Euphoria. I will not expand further.
