Spyro The Dragon is set to make his comeback sooner than you think

A new hint found in Crash Team Rumble suggests that Spyro's comeback could be happening sooner than we thought.

It’s been quite some time since we got a new Spyro game - I can’t be the only one who’s been wondering what's happened to everyone’s favourite purple dragon.

To be exact, the series’ most recent release was the Spyro Reignited Trilogy - a remastered collection of the first three Spyro games - which came out in 2018. A five-year wait seems long enough, but it’s been even longer since the last completely fresh entry, The Legend of Spyro: Dawn of the Dragon, which hit consoles in 2008.

Take a look at the trailer for the Spyro Reignited Trilogy below.

Back in January, fans spotted that developer Toys for Bob had included a picture of Spyro in a tweet about its “big moves and BIG MOOD for 2023”, prompting everyone to wonder if something might be in development at the studio. Several months later and we’re still yet to hear anything official, but yet another hint towards Spyro's comeback may have been found in Toys for Bob’s latest release, Crash Team Rumble.

The online 4v4 multiplayer title stars, as the name would suggest, Crash Bandicoot and the gang, but as Game Rant reports, fans have noticed a nod to Spyro hidden in the game’s battle pass. Specifically, the 71st battle pass tier rewards players with the ‘Dragon Vision’ banner, and if you look very closely, you can spot two crystal dragons in the background which look an awful lot like the statues in the first Spyro game.

Furthermore, Game Rant writes that a banner previously shown on the Crash Team Rumble website included a number of icons for characters who seem to have been left out of the game (at least, at launch). Two of these seemed to hint at both Spyro and Ripto's inclusion in the title.

So, what does all this mean? The most likely conclusion is probably that Spyro could be added as a playable character in Crash Team Rumble sometime in the future, which would be neat. However, the thing I’m sure we’re all hoping for is that this is a little hint from Toys for Bob to let everyone know that Spyro hasn’t been forgotten about, and that maybe we could look forward to a new game in the future. Please?
