'Star Wars: Eclipse' Has Reportedly Been Delayed Into 2027

'Star Wars: Eclipse' Has Reportedly Been Delayed Into 2027

First revealed at The Game Awards last year, Star Wars Eclipse may apparently be pushed back due to hiring problems at Quantic Dream.

Oh dear. Last year’s Game Awards were an exciting time for Star Wars fans, thanks to the reveal of Star Wars Eclipse. We don’t know much about it yet, but it’s got stars, it’s got wars, and what else could you possibly ask for? Beats me.

The game is being developed by Quantic Dream - a French studio who are known for their narrative adventures, including Beyond: Two Souls and Detroit: Become Human, but perhaps even better known for being a little, uh, questionable. The studio gained a very damaged reputation thanks to reports about its working environment back in 2018, which raised concerns about how development for Star Wars Eclipse was going to go.

In case you missed it, check out the reveal trailer for Star Wars Eclipse below.

Well, it looks like things aren’t going too great. According to prominent industry insider Tom Henderson, and his report on Xfire, we might not be seeing the game release while 2027, or even 2028. Why? Well, reportedly, the game was announced so early in an attempt to attract more new staff to the studio. Unfortunately, that doesn’t seem to have worked out.

According to the report, the studio have over 60 job openings in Paris alone, which suggests that people aren’t really jumping to work there. It’s also been suggested that the early announcement of Eclipse could have been to tempt other big companies into buying the studio. So far, 2022 seems to be the year of gaming acquisitions, so this doesn’t seem too out of the way.

We can only hope that after all this, the game will actually be good, because the trailer was super promising. According to a different insider earlier this year, apparently some of the gameplay prototypes which are being worked on at the minute actually draw inspiration from The Last of Us, which is a crossover I don’t think anyone saw coming. It sounds like it’s going to be a very long time before we find out if there’s any truth to that, though.
