Star Wars Celebration sure was a beautiful thing. Just over a week ago, we were treated to a whole host of amazing Star Wars announcements but for us gamers, the biggest takeaway was undeniably the unveiling of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor which is set to release in 2023.

Already, the developers have teased a darker journey for Cal Kestis which will see him make some “unsavoury” alliances and fans have very interesting theories about what that could mean. If the game is set to feature a darker tone, this new rumour would be very fitting indeed.

Whispers on the wind suggest that prequel trilogy fan-favourite Darth Maul could appear in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. The suggestion comes from industry insider Nick Baker. Whilst appearing on the Xbox Era podcast, Baker said, “I’m hoping what I heard about that game a long time ago holds true. [...] I had heard that Darth Maul might be in it.”

Evidence wise, “I heard” doesn’t hold a ton of credibility but let’s step back and think about this rumour (which as always, should be taken with a pinch of salt). Star Wars Jedi: Survivor is supposedly set in 9BBY. We know that Darth Maul was alive in Solo: A Star Wars Story - the events of which ended one year prior, in 10BBY.

To clear up any date confusion, Star Wars’ BBY dates count down in reverse similar to our BC years. The sequel trilogy then takes place in the ABY years, which function like our AD years. Got all that?

If Maul was alive in Solo then it certainly stands to reason that he could appear in Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. That being said, 9BBY is also the year Obi-Wan Kenobi is set so could we see Maul appear in the Disney Plus series’ remaining episodes instead? Given how beloved (and underused) Darth Maul is, a new appearance certainly feels like an inevitability.
