'Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic' Remake Might Be In Trouble

I remember it fondly, the day the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake was announced. The excitement. The euphoria. It was fun while it lasted. Just last month, Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier revealed that Aspyr’s remake had been delayed indefinitely, although Aspyr themselves have kept tight-lipped on the whole affair. It looks like Schreier was right though as KOTOR is certainly in trouble.

Schreier’s report claimed that the game was delayed after a demo was shown to Sony and Lucasfilm who were both severely underwhelmed. The game’s art director and design director were subsequently fired and Aspyr told developers they were looking for new opportunities. Saber Interactive were assisting on the project and Aspyr employees speculated that Saber may take over development completely. Well, it now seems like development is indeed changing hands.

Both Aspyr and Saber are owned by The Embracer Group and as pointed out by ComicBook, a new earnings report shows that Embracer Group have moved a AAA project to a new developer to “ensure the quality bar is where we need it to be for the title.” The project isn’t specified, nor is the developer, but it certainly fits with what we know about the KOTOR remake.

The report stated, “One of the Group's AAA projects has transitioned to another studio within the Group. This was done to ensure the quality bar is where we need it to be for the title. We are not expecting any material delays for the title based on this transition." KOTOR was never given a release date but speculation placed the game’s release in 2023 or 2024 so who knows? Maybe the game isn’t as doomed as we thought.
