Starfield major free download announced with over 100 much-needed improvements

Before its release in September 2023, you’d probably find it difficult to name a game as hyped as Bethesda’s sci-fi RPG, Starfield. Whether Starfield managed to live up to that hype, probably depends on who you ask.

As with most video games of the modern era, Starfield will and has benefited from a series of post-launch updates to fix reported bugs and perhaps even add some new features to boot. Recently, Bethesda teased an upcoming free download for Starfield which promises to make over 100 much-needed improvements to the game.

In our review of Starfield, we said: “Bethesda has created a universe that, despite its vast scale, maintains interest and an impressive attention to detail throughout. The journey you embark on will dazzle you, and I have no doubt that players will be gripped for months, perhaps even years to come. Here is a playground where you can be whoever you want to be. I simply cannot stop thinking about Starfield and the wondrous secrets it still holds. Bethesda, I have one word: bravo.”

In a tweet shared on the official Starfield Twitter page, it teased: “Next week, on 17 January, we’ll be putting our biggest Starfield update yet into Steam Beta with over 100 fixes and improvements, with a planned release date for all players two weeks later.” The tweet in question also featured a screenshot of lush water effects on the planet New Atlantis implying that at least one of the hundred improvements will be made to the graphics of Starfield.

As the tweet states, this major free download will be tested first for Steam beta participants before being rolled out to Xbox Series X|S. If the two-week estimate is true, the console update should be available at the end of January or early February. We’ll keep you posted when that update goes live.

Starfield is out now on PC and Xbox Series X|S. It’s also available to Xbox Game Pass subscribers at no extra cost.
