Steam's latest free game is 'easy to get hooked on'

Lose hours to this one

While we love all video game platforms, there's no getting around the fact that PC gamers have a much better time of it when it comes to sheer variety.

Sure, Xbox and PlayStation games are getting more and more mod support and fan-made content, but PC gamers have been getting stuck into some of the best gaming experiences for years now. Plus, they get way more freebies than the other platforms combined.

Over the past few weeks, Steam has dropped a ridiculous number of free games, demos, and more. While the majority of weekly free Steam drops aren't exactly much to write home about, there are some genuinely great ideas and fun times to be had in the mix.

One such game is Galactic Grinder, a completely free (and seriously stylish) side-scrolling skateboarding game that was built by a team of talented students at the DigiPen Institute Of Technology.

The Steam page for the game describes the game thusly: "Galactic Grinder is a fast paced 2.5D side-scrolling skateboarding game, where the player skates through different planets while performing tricks to gain points to attain the best possible score." Simple enough, but sometimes the best games are based around the most basic ideas.

While Galactic Grinder obviously hasn't been flooded with reviews, those that have taken the time to check it out have come away impressed.

One user wrote: "Honestly, it’s the type of game you can easily get hooked on. it’s reminiscent of phone games like subway surfer. i spent well over an hour and a half on my first day playing it and it was so fun. the levels are designed really well, which surprised me quite a lot considering it’s a project developed by university students! It’s for sure worth playing it."

So there you are. If you're looking to kill a few hours and support the work of a bunch of talented students, you could do a heck of a lot worse than check out Galactic Grinder.
