Strangely, the prices of Capcom games like Resident Evil 2, 3, 7 and more have been increased with no notice from either Steam or the publisher, and it is only affecting a specific number of countries.
The rising cost of games alongside pressures on people's personal financials is a touchy topic. "We announced a $70 price point for NBA 2K21, our view was that we're offering an array of extraordinary experiences, lots of replayability, and the last time there was a frontline price increase in the US was 2005, 2006, so we think consumers were ready for it," said Strauss Zelnick, CEO of the parent company of Rockstar Games, last year.

Lately, it's been discovered that it's very easy for CEOs whose net worth is over $290 million to say things such as the above. And ultimately, while a price hike might be the most economical action for the company, it does sting the consumers who feel like they're being unfairly targeted. As per this post on Resetera, gamers in Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Costa Rica and Turkey have seen the cost of titles like Resident Evil 7 and Resident Evil 0 surge by over 600% overnight.

Those in Colombia, Kazakhstan, Mexico, Peru and Uruguay have also reported a similar sudden surge though not all of the affected games are the same. "For PC being their 'main platform going forward' [Capcom has] made some dogsh*t decisions so far," said one. "Checking my wishlist for changes, RE2 almost doubled in price," commented another. "Gaming is already so damn expensive around here considering purchasing power, all it does is make me spend less." We'll wait and see if Capcom has a response to their fans' upset.
