Steam's latest free game is a gorgeous Pokémon inspired RPG

You must be Yolking

A brand new Pokémon-like game can be played for free on Steam. Yolk Heroes: A Long Tamago is available as a demo currently, allowing players to experience this life sim and digital pet game.

Yolk Heroes: A Long Tamago is described by the developers as "Part digital pet game, part RPG adventure, and part casual idle game." It's up to the player to become a guardian spirit and watch over the Fairy Queen while she grows into a hero who will battle the Dark Lord, and "bring peace to the land."

The hero will start life as an egg to be monitored and kept at the perfect temperature before hatching and becoming an infant who is understandably helpless. You'll take part in her training, playing minigames and practicing skills for her to grow into the hero she needs to be.

The Steam page for Yolk Heroes: A Long Tamago notes that "once your elf reaches maturity, [you] take them out on quests and adventures for treasure and glory." With an anime styling, this looks like a very cute, wholesome and "cosy" experience. It's one that stays simple and can be checked once every few days.

This is definitely one for fans of Pokémon and idle mobile games and you can play the demo now by visiting Steam and downloading it today, for free. You don't even have to worry about the system requirements as it's a pixel-based adventure with simple animations. It looks like you could run this hyper casual game on your toaster.

There's no information on what the final game will cost, or even when it will release, so make sure to add it to your wishlist and check in for updates from the team at 14 Hours Productions. Yolk Heroes is a step up from your average Tamagotchi and looks like the perfect game for those who let their pet die every few days.
