'Stranger Things': Metallica Slams Gatekeepers Complaining About Master Of Puppets Scene

Stranger Things’ fourth season came to an explosive end a couple of weeks ago, and it’s safe to say that many fans are still processing it all. The finale was so popular that it actually broke Netflix for a while when the last two episodes became available to watch, and since then, thousands of people have been signing a petition to bring back a character who was “unfairly” killed.
Story aside though, if there’s one thing Stranger Things does well, it’s propelling some absolute bangers from the 80s back into the charts. We’ve probably all listened to Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’ a few too many times than we’re willing to admit since season four aired, and that’s great - discovering music you love can only ever be a good thing, no matter how you found it.

Not everyone thinks that way, though, including some Metallica fans. The heavy metal band also recently featured in the show, with their iconic track ‘Master of Puppets’ rocketing into many a Stranger Things fan’s Spotify playlist thanks to a brilliant performance from Eddie Munson. As reported by ComicBook, when the band posted a clip of a performance of the song to TikTok, some users apologised for the “fake” fans who’d found Metallica’s music through Stranger Things, but they had the best response.
“I’m sorry Metallica for all the fake Stranger Things fans love ya,” one person wrote. “Don’t be sorry. Everyone is welcome in the Metallica Family,” Metallica responded. “If they like ‘Puppets’, chances are they’ll find plenty of other songs to get into.”
The band then added a pinned comment onto the video to hammer the point home: “FYI - EVERYONE is welcome in the Metallica Family,” they wrote. “Whether you’ve been a fan for 40 hours or 40 years, we all share a bond through music. All of you started at ground zero at one point in time.”
On Instagram, the band also expressed how cool it was to have one of their songs included in the show: “The way the Duffer Brothers have incorporated music into Stranger Things has always been next level, so we were beyond psyched for them to not only include ‘Master of Puppets’ in the show, but to have such a pivotal scene built around it. We were all stoked to see the final result and when we did we were totally blown away,” they said.
