I’ll start off by saying that you’ll find no season four spoilers here, rest assured my dear friends. That aside, Stranger Things has really kicked things up a notch this season. From the acting, to the production value, to the intensity of the horror, it’s a wild ride but one that we’re so glad to be on.
Even before the series premiered, we had an inkling that season four would be juicy thanks to its lengthy runtime and whopping $30 million episode budget. Whether you’ve finished the entire season or you’re one episode in, you only need to look to iTunes to see the influence of Stranger Things’ fourth season. The show has sent Kate Bush’s ‘Running Up That Hill’ to number one 37 years after it was released.

Adding some numbers to this evident level of success, Stranger Things’ fourth season has officially broken Netflix streaming records for any English language TV show after 286.79 million hours were watched globally across the TV series’ first weekend on the streaming platform. Netflix went on to add that Stranger Things “skyrocketed to the 001 spot in 83 countries - another premiere record.”

Stranger Things has taken the title from Bridgerton’s second season which was watched for over 193 million hours during its debut weekend, giving Stranger Things an impressive advance of roughly 93 million extra hours watched. That’s a lot … just in case you didn’t know.
To compare to Stranger Things’ previous viewing numbers, season three was watched by 64 million households during its launch weekend back in 2019. It’s not exactly a fair comparison. Around 70 percent of an episode used to have to be watched to class as a view whereas now, Netflix combines total viewing hours. Still, it looks like Stranger Things has benefited from a new slew of fans and Part Two is still yet to drop. Mark your calendars because the adventure continues on 1 July. I can’t wait.
