'Stray' Modders Are Adding Their Own Cats To The Game

'Stray' Modders Are Adding Their Own Cats To The Game

Modders have been hard at work making sure that their own kitties can become the stars of Stray.

Indie darling Stray finally released on PS4, PS5 and Steam last week, and I think we can all say that it was worth the wait. In our review, we gave the game a generous 9/10, praising the stunning visuals, creativity, and oh-so-charming kitty action.

PlayStation users in the UK are currently able to get a free trial of PS Plus Extra or Premium, perfect for checking out this short-but-sweet adventure in all its glory without having to spend a penny, but there is one thing you’ll miss out on this way - mods

Take a look at some super cute cats reacting to Stray in the video below.

Modders have already been hard at work whipping up a whole host of mods for the PC version of BlueTwelve Studio’s cat simulator - someone has already put Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas’ CJ into the game as a replacement for the kitty protagonist, which is as utterly cursed as you’d imagine. On the flip side though, far more wholesome mods also exist, including a multitude of options for those wanting to play through the game as their own cats.

A tweet from GAMINGbible’s very own Imogen went viral this weekend, when she shared a number of alternate kitty mods which have already been created, many by owners who wanted to make their cats the stars of the show: “This is a mod to replace the cat [colours] with the [colours] of my own calico cat named Sunny,” wrote modder Narwhix. “Created a skin of my cat, Maro. Tuxedo cat,” whenbearsreign said.

So, that’s absolutely adorable. In other super sweet Stray news, publisher Annapurna Interactive recently teamed up with a number of cat-based charities to help raise money for real homeless cats, which is just incredible. They encouraged fans to donate to Nebraska Humane Society and Cats Protection to be in with a chance of winning a copy of the game, and although that competition has now closed, you can still sign up to become a “Pawsome Player” and organise your own fundraising streams and gaming events. Do it for the kitties.
