Take-Two Boss Finally Responds To "Save Red Dead Online" Campaign

Take-Two Boss Finally Responds To "Save Red Dead Online" Campaign

Strauss Zelnick confirmed that he's "heard the frustration", and thinks it's "flattering" that people want more content.

‘Gamers are upset’ is a very common headline in the world of gaming news, no matter what you’re on about. People can be very difficult to please - we’re talking about a community where a select few want every game imaginable to be out instantly, made to a very high quality, and only on the platforms they care about. Because that’s rational.

Well, this year, Red Dead Online fans have been busy making their displeased voices heard loud and clear, albeit for a much more reasonable cause. January saw the rise of the #SaveRedDeadOnline campaign on Twitter, after it was announced that the game would be seeing a simple refresh of its old content rather than anything new for its first update of the year.

Before we get into it, take a look at some of the funniest Red Dead Redemption 2 wins and fails right here.

People were worried that this spelled the beginning of the end, and you can’t blame them for thinking that when Rockstar still continue to throw so much into GTA Online, despite that being out for way longer. Not that anyone was happy about the introduction of the GTA+ subscription service, but y’know. It was something

Anyway, all these months on, and Red Dead players’ efforts have finally been officially recognised, by none other than the CEO of Take-Two, Strauss Zelnick. Speaking to IGN prior to Take-Two’s quarterly earnings call, he confirmed he was well aware of the “frustration”.

“Rockstar Games talks about the updates that are coming, and we're working on an awful lot at Rockstar Games,” he said. “I've heard the frustration, it’s flattering that they want more content, and more will be said by Rockstar in due time.”

Zelnick affirmed that Take-Two intend to continue supporting Red Dead Online into the future, but it’s been later clarified that he was “solely referring to the online servers”, and actual content updates are all down to Rockstar.

So, it’s probably not really the response anyone was hoping for, but it goes to show that at the very least, the campaign is getting fans’ concerns heard by the right people. Lately, there’s been talk of Red Dead Redemption 2 finally getting its new-gen enhancements sometime soon, so it’d make sense for some more significant updates to come along at the same time as that (if the rumours are true). We’ll just have to stay tuned.
