All the time Marvel and Sony have spent teasing a Spider-Man/Venom crossover, we just assumed that Tom Hardy's Eddie Brock would meet Tom Holland's Peter Parker. It never occurred to us until now that the brain-loving symbiote could cross paths with an entirely different Spider-Man.
The post-credits scene of Spider-Man: No Way Home saw Venom and Eddie, having been pulled into the MCU at the end of Let There Be Carnage, learning all about a world full of superheroes. But just as Eddie decides it's time to head to New York and have a little talk with Spider-Man, he's sent back to his own universe - presumably as a result of Doctor Strange's spell.
After Venom and Eddie leave the MCU, we see a small piece of the symbiote has stayed behind. Naturally, this left fans with more questions than answers. Will the MCU have a new Venom that has nothing to do with Tom Hardy? How will Tom Hardy and Tom Holland meet if the two characters are firmly back in their own universes?

There are plenty of unknowns, but a neat new fan theory suggests that Tom Hardy's Venom will do battle with a Spider-Man. Just not the one we were expecting.
According to Reddit user driku12, the Venom movies actually take place in the same universe as The Amazing Spider-Man movies starring Andrew Garfield.
The Redditor argues that everyone who came through as a result of Doctor Strange's botched memory spell came from two universes - the Tobey Maguire and Andrew Garfield universes - in equal number. Maguire had Doctor Octopus, Green Goblin and Sandman, while Garfield had Lizard, Electro and, apparently, Venom.
"There's only two Webbverse villains, but three Raimi villains and a Spider-Man from each reality," they write. "It would be strange for the spell to follow this pattern of picking a mostly equal number of people from only two specific universes, and then pulling one random guy from a completely unrelated universe where Spider-Man doesn't even exist. If that's the case, why not pull across any symbiote that has access to the hivemind?"

It's an interesting argument, especially given the recent rumours that Sony is considering more Spider-Man projects with Andrew Garfield. It'd be a great way for the MCU to continue telling its own Spidey stories with Tom Holland, while Sony can go off and do its own thing with characters like Morbius and Venom.
