So, The Batman is a huge hit. I think it’s fair to say that there was some concern amongst fans as to how great Robert Pattinson’s depiction of the Dark Knight would actually be, but those worries were very quickly dispatched when the super positive critic reviews came in, shortly followed by a great audience reaction, too.
Needless to say, fans are already craving more, with many believing that a sequel would be the perfect time to introduce Robin. And luckily for them, it seems like the director might be thinking the same thing. As reported by Screen Rant, when speaking on the Happy Sad Confused podcast, Matt Reeves was asked if Robin could work in his grittier version of Gotham at all, and he had a pretty interesting answer.

“Maybe. We'll just say maybe. I don't know, I don’t know. Here's the thing, I have a lot of ideas about what I want to do. I'm not sure what the next story is,” he said, “For me, whatever that story's going to be, it's going to be to take these characters - and specifically Batman's character - and put them in some kind of emotional jeopardy. So when you talk about what you're talking about, there may be a really interesting story. There'd have to be emotional stakes so that you get drawn into that character's story."

He continued: “I don't want that character to become a cypher. I don't want to be like, 'Okay, so we saw it wasn't an origin tale, but you know what, that was kind of [Batman's] origins and now he's just perfect.' No, you need to test the character again and again and again. And for me, yeah, there might be something in that. I don't know. There's a deep-dive that already happened at the beginning, and now I'm gonna have to deep-dive again if we have the chance to make another one and so we shall see.”
Tantalising! At the moment, a sequel hasn’t actually been officially confirmed, but just based on how successful The Batman has been so far, it’s almost certainly only a matter of time before that happens.
In case you missed it, a screening of the movie descended into chaos when one audience member took it upon themselves to release a real, live bat into the theatre. Hilariously, despite the audience all being offered full refunds, most of them decided to stay and finish watching the film while the bat was still in the room. Guess they wanted to capitalise on the immersion. But please, don’t bring real bats into the cinema. Or any other winged creatures, to be quite honest.
