The Day Before, a promising open-world shooter from Fntastic, has been delayed to next year.

The upcoming game, which blends survival and MMO elements, has been described as a cross between The Last Of Us and the The Division. Since being officially unveiled last year, it's shot to the top of Steam's most wishlisted games chart.

Unfortunately, while it was supposed to be out in just six weeks (June 21), IGN now reports that The Day Before will not be released until March 1, 2023.

Take a look at the game in action below!

The developer explained that the main reason for the delay is so that the team can switch to Unreal Engine 5. Doing so six weeks before the game was supposed to launch has understandably raised some eyebrows, however.

"Millions of people have added The Day Before to their wishlist, making The Day Before one of the most anticipated games in the world," Fntastic wrote in a statement.

"Feeling and understanding the great responsibility that we face, with enormous gratitude in our hearts, were pleased to announce that The Day Before is switching to the new Unreal Engine 5 technology! The transition to a more advanced and adapted open worlds engine, will make the gameplay of The Day Before even more fantastic. In this regard, we inform you that the new release date of the game will be March 1 2023."

The Day Before promises players a realistic zombie survival experience that involves building out your arsenal, competing with other humans for resources, and staying alive in harsh conditions. It all sounds fairly ambitious, and looks phenomenal. We'll just have to wait and see if this sudden delay is for the best or not.
